Why we need exercise and apes don't

01/08/18 from Scientific American, Evolved to Exercise , January 2019 Our bodies are evolved to require daily physical activity and consequently exercise doesn not make our bodies work more so much as it makes them work better. Apes are relatively sedentary because they are plant eaters. Humans evolved as hunter-gatherers, with meat changing body physiology. Exercise is not optional. It is essential. Every organ system is implicated, down to the cellular level. here's what exercise does: releases hundreds of signaling molecules into the body endurance exercies: reduces chronic inflammation; lowers resting levels of hormones, thus reducing cancer; blunts morning rise in cortisol; reduces insulin insensitivity improves immune system function; helps muscles produce enzymes that clear fat from circulating blood.
